Two Minden High School softball players and two MHS baseball players received Honorable Mentions by Louisiana Sports Writers Association for 4A All-State.

Kyle Ryan, Lindsay Ryan, both of Minden were named for softball, while Brody Bower and Bryson Ranger, also of  Minden were honored for baseball.

Two LHSAA championship pitchers who also produced at the plate, helping each of them earn top honors from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Lutcher’s Marshall Louque and Vandebilt’s Corin Talbot earned LSWA Most Outstanding Player honors in Class 4A baseball and softball, respectively. Lutcher baseball’s Ryan Jensen and Lutcher softball’s Cathy Bland were named as Coaches of the Year.

Louque, an LSU baseball commitment, went 9-2 with a 1.75 ERA and 98 strikeouts in just over 50 innings, and batted .418 with eight home runs and 43 RBI. The Little League World Series hero from five years ago hit a three-run home run and pitched a five-hit shutout as the Bulldogs defeated Iowa 5-0 in a Division II nonselect semifinal. Louque has twice been selected as an all-state pitcher by the LSWA.

Talbot, a Southwest Mississippi signee, went 14-4 with a 1.74 ERA and 154 strikeouts from the circle. She batted .415 with 49 hits, 17 home runs and 56 RBI. She came through in the Division II select semifinals with a home run at the plate and 13 strikeouts pitching against Hannan. She homered twice in the championship against Buckeye.

Lutcher coaches Jensen and Bland both won championships – the second in the past three seasons for Jensen and the first for Bland in her 15 seasons at the school. Lutcher softball, the No. 2 seed, posted a stunning upset of nationally ranked North DeSoto in the Division II nonselect final.
