Webster declares State of Emergency

Residence on Gryder Road

Webster Parish has declared a State of Emergency for the damages sustained from Tropical Storm Beryl as it moved through the area Monday. All roadways are currently open, according to Webster Parish Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Brian Williams.

“We currently have just under 800 residents without power,” Williams said Tuesday morning. “The two worst areas are Hwy. 79 at Gryder Road and Shongaloo near Hwy, Alt, 2, Ponder Road and Cockrell Road.”

Webster Parish Police Jury and Williams ask anyone who encounters trees in the roadway or power lines down, please DIAL 9-1-1 so the appropriate agency can be dispatched. Please keep back from any downed power lines, as the power companies are working diligently on restoring power to the affected areas as soon as possible.

Williams thanked Webster Parish Public Works Department, Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office and all of the parish fire departments that were out Monday, well into the night clearing roadways and checking on citizens.
