The Minden 6U Sweetees notched two big wins on a steamy Saturday in Alexandria in the Dixie Softball State Tournament. The bats were hot early as they faced off against Ruston, led by Paisley Harlon, Elizabeth Fox, and Hope Lincoln, all with 3 hits and 3 runs scored.
Emersyn Biles, Jincie Ogwyn, and Adalyn McClaran each added multiple hits, and the defense held up their end of the bargain with a 5th inning stand against a strong Ruston squad for a final score of 15-14.
The Minden Sweetees kept the offense rolling in game two against West Monroe, tallying 10 runs on 19 hits. The defense again proved strong behind the outstanding play of first baseman Hope Lincoln, holding West Monroe scoreless in three of the five innings played.
Minden fell short on Sunday, again finishing runner-up to the District Champions from Ruston. However, the second-place finish earned the Sweetees a seat at the table for the World Series to be held in Monroe beginning July 26th.
Don’t let the ribbons and curls fool you, these Minden girls play for keeps and look to make another strong showing as they represent Louisiana at the Dixie Softball World Series. They’ll soon trade in their cleats and gloves for pencils and notebooks come August, so get out and support the biggest little ballers around as they push for some World Series hardware!
