Around mid-August, under the night’s stars, Minden area residents may witness what appears to be UFO. But that’s not really the case.

Around two weeks ago, City of Minden leadership met with Major Jason Overstreet, Provost Marshal for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), to discuss an upcoming training exercise on August 13-14 that will include landing locally.

Sixteen CH-47F Chinook helicopters will touch down and refuel at Minden Airport as they travel from Fort Campbell, Ky., to Louisiana.

“There will be well over 200 people flying in,” Minden Mayor Nick Cox said.

Another meeting will be held beforehand.
