Lane and Interstate closures: It’s about to get real

The time has come for commuters to be inconvenienced on their treks to and from work, but there is light at the end of the I-20 tunnel … in about one year.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reminds motorists lane and interstate closures have been scheduled on I-20 at the LA 531 interchange near Minden in Webster Parish to allow for continued construction activities as part of the ongoing bridge replacement project at this location.

On Wednesday, August 28, I-20 westbound will be reduced to one lane from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for overhead bridge construction work to take place.

On the night of Thursday, August 29, both I-20 eastbound and westbound will be closed from approximately 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow for overhead bridge construction work.

During the nighttime interstate closure, traffic will be diverted onto the off-ramps at LA 531, and back onto I-20 via the on-ramps.

The entire project is anticipated to be complete in Summer 2025, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.

Restrictions/Permits: Total interstate closure at the specified location on the night of 8/29/2024. All vehicles will be detoured via the on and off-ramps at the interchange.
