Amazing! It’s almost September and that means the beginning of Fall Bible Study for many men and women in Minden and the surrounding areas. This begins the 49th year of Bible study led by Roberta Kitchens. Roberta’s mother Grace Carroll was a well-known Bible teacher in Baton Rouge. For several years in the fall of the year, Mrs. Grace, as she was called, would take a week of her vacation from the LSU insurance department and come to Minden, staying at the home of Judge and Mrs. Graydon Kitchens, to teach two Bible studies each day.
As Mrs. Grace’s health began to fail, Roberta’s friends would plead, “We don’t want to stop studying. You can do this.” And after much prayer, she began, first using a simple booklet from Christian Women’s Club, then going to an in-depth verse by verse study of requested books of the Bible.
Several years ago, some of the men in First Baptist said they wanted to study as well, so a coed Monday night Bible study at 6:30, with the help of Judge Kitchens, was begun.
Our world is changing at a dizzying rate. It is truly amazing to realize we are becoming a global community. The Scriptures address this change in both the Old and New Testaments. Beginning the first Friday and Monday after Labor Day, we will read and study the mind-boggling book of DANIEL. The historically accurate events surrounding ancient Babylon and Israel coinciding with the recently studied book of REVELATION will enlighten you about our current political and spiritual situations.
Please consider joining us in one of the studies. There is no registration fee. The classes will meet in the Reception Room of First Baptist church. I suggest a notebook and of course your Bible. Any translation will be fine. (Bring the one you will read. Smile.) Come early. We will fellowship over coffee and cookies from our great kitchen. What ages included? Last year we had a senior in high school and ME, a very senior citizen. So that includes you all.
