Friday night set a beautiful scene with your 2024 Apaches Homecoming Queen, Gwyneth Lott presenting her court to kick the wonderful homecoming festivities off for Glenbrook. After the presentations were finalized, your Apaches gave the Hornets from Arcadia a swat by the score of 27-6.
Your Apaches deferred the coin toss to the second half and were set to kick off. With Arcadia’s blazing speed, the Apaches executed a perfect onside kick that Slaid Lollar nabbed! The Apaches took over on the Hornet 40. Daivari Jackson laid his first pancake that paved the way for Viscous Vining to pick up the first down, followed by Sonic Seth’s first touch of the night to pick up 5. The unbelievable strennfff of Nolan Still laid his first pancake of many for Vining to pick up 6, then a play fake opened up for Jackson Waller to pick up the first down in the flat. On fourth and short goal, the Apaches turned it over on the 1” line, which Sonic Seth makes the point, he had both feet well in the end zone, or else he wouldn’t have given himself up to take a massive hit. But the officials called him short of the goal line and the Hornets took over at the 6 minute mark water break. The Apache defense forced a fourth down with great run stopping and Rowdy Reagan hurrying the QB on a blitz to force an incomplete pass and a Hornet punt formation. The Hornets pulled a fast one and went for the fake but an incomplete pass gave the Apaches the ball on the 5 yard line. Sonic Seth took it down to the 1/2” line again, but a QB sneak with the offensive line pushing the D-line into the the back of the end zone. The Apaches took the early lead after a missed extra point, Apaches led 6-0 with 3:08 in first.
Big D and Huddy Glasscock forced a stop behind the line to force a 3rd and 8, but the hornets picked up the first down with a dart on a play action Dawson Day and Rowdy Reagan pushed the Hornet RB backward for a tackle for loss. The Apaches forced a 3rd and 12 to start the 2nd quarter. Jackson Waller made his presence known with mad hops as he leaped thru the air to intercept the Hornet QB. The Apaches took over on their own 38. The Apaches ran a quick run with Mangrum and on 3rd and 8, the Apaches ran a perfect screen to Sonic Seth and he flipped the field to pick up 38 yards and a first down. The Apaches were setup at the Hornet 16 with Vining picking up 7 yards. The Apaches picked up a first down on a QB keeper on 4th and 4. The Apaches saw a 1st and goal from the 4, and the QB keeper from the power formation again put the Apaches on the board. Sonic Seth picked up the 2pt conversion. The Apaches led 14-0 with 7:41 left in 2nd.
Onside kick attempt nearly picked up by the Apaches, but the hornets took over but Huddy Rowdy and Landon Chandler forced a quick 3rd and 9 in consecutive plays. Good coverage by CP-10, Carson Powell forced a 4th and 9, but the shifty Hornet WR caught a quick screen and broke a few tackles to take it to the house. The Apaches stopped the 2pt conversation. Apaches led 14-6 with 6 minutes left in first half. That would be the last time the Hornets would sniff a touchdown in the game.
Easton Sanders found Action Jackson for a quick gain of 5. But 2 short incompletions had the Apaches looking at a 4th and 5. The Red Rifle released a bullet to the sure hands of Dime Hollingsworth for an Apache first down. Sonic Seth ran it thru the A gap that the O-line blew apart for a gain of 25 and an Apache first down. On 3rd and 8, the Apaches picked up a few to Gage White that brought up a 4th and 5 with 2:50 left in the first half. Rage Gage ran a perfect TE route to pick up 12yd then Vicious Vining blew the hole up and another Apache TD from 5-yd out. The Apaches missed the extra point, but nonetheless, the Apaches lead grew to 20-6 with 2:07 left in the first half. The Apache defense forced a 4th down but the Hornets picked up the first down. The next play, Rowdy Ryan leveled the Hornet QB on a scramble for only a gain of 5 with 32 sec left in the first half. Great coverage by Rowdy Ryan forced another 4th down and 10, with 17.5 sec left. Connor Bolton nearly intercepted the Hornet QB to end the first half with Apaches up on Arcadia, 20-6 at the half.
Apaches’ cheer, Drum Line, and Sundancers wowed the crowd with outstanding performances. The homecoming festivities ensued with presentations of the classes in attendance for homecoming.
Apaches’ Sonic Seth made a great kick return to start the second half to set Apaches up on the 35yd line, but quickly faced a 3rd and long and an errant pass from Easton Sanders to the Hornets gave them great field position on the Apache 20. Huddy and Dawson Day put the Hornets on a 3rd and 8. The Apaches’ defense held strong and forced an incompletion. The Hornets tried a reverse but Big D-Dauvari Jackson made a great read and forced the RB out of bounds after only gaining 2 yards. Apaches found new life on their own 16.
The Apaches struggled to get in sync and was forced to punt with Sonic Seth flipping the field with a punt of 48yd.
Apaches’ defense stuffed the run all night, but the Hornets picked up a first down on a quick WR screen. Quickly ensuing the Apaches SR LB-Dawson Day sacked the Hornet QB and forced an intentional grounding. Then Huddy Gkasscock and Big Bad Brayson Cummings sacked the QB to force a punt. The Apaches took over on the 39 yard line. Apaches’ offense struggled mightily with blocking schemes on offense and had to quickly punt. Sonic Seth flipped the field yet again with a punt of 48yd again and pinned them back inside the 15.
Huddy and Brayson continued their dominance on defense with 2 more tackles for loss to bring up a 3rd down and a cab ride. But the Hornets caught the Apache corner napping and picked up a huge gain into Apache territory at the 38 yard line to start the 4th quarter with the Apaches up 20-6.
The Apaches forced a 4th and long and Jackson Walker broke up a pass to give the Apaches the ball on their own 40 with 11:04 left in the game. On the First play from scrimmage, the offensive line pushed the hornet defensive line up the hill and down Breaborn Glen, where Viscous Vining broke loose for a gain of 48 yards and an Apache first down inside the Hornet Red Zone. The Apache Offensive line continued their dominance and blew a hole big enough the M1-Abrams Tank that is Cade Vining, rolled through, untouched for another Apache score! The extra point was good, Apaches stretched the lead 27-6 with 10:34 left in the contest.
The Apaches’ defense went to work and made a big tackle for loss again, but the Hornets ran a great reverse and picked up 20-yards. CP-10, Carson Powell made a great play and tackle for a loss to bring up 3rd and long when Big D made a huge tackle for loss to bring up a 4th and 15. Hornets QB threw a missile across the middle and Easton Sanders decleated the Hornet WR to break the pass up and forced a turnover on downs. The Apaches would give the Hornets a steady diet of the law firm, Vining and Mangrum all the way down the field where the Apaches took the victory formation inside the 10 yard line to secure a win, 27-6! Let’s all make the trip to Ruston next Thursday evening as the Apaches will face off against a stout Lincoln Prep School for a district challenge!
