Miss Minden Scholarship Competition moves back to January, Minden High School Auditorium

Mark your calendars for the 72nd annual Little Miss and Miss Minden Scholarship Competition hosted by the Young Women’s Service Club (YWSC) of Minden. The event will be held on Saturday, January 18 at the Minden High School Auditorium.

The Little Miss competition will kick off at 1 p.m., followed by Miss Minden beginning at 7 p.m.

“The YWSC members and I love to put this pageant together every year for all the young ladies competing including Little Miss Minden,” said pageant chair Gillian Davis. “We love seeing the community come together and support all the contestants, as well.”

One change to be noted will be the elimination of the past title of Miss Spirit of Fasching. The club unanimously decided to make this adjustment for the upcoming season, but with this change will come a higher scholarship amount to be awarded for the lucky ladies crowned Miss Outstanding Teen and Miss Minden. Miss Outstanding Teen will now receive $1,000 and Miss Minden will be awarded $2,000. Both queens will also have the opportunity to compete for the Miss Louisiana title later in the year in Monroe.

The YWSC will also continue giving out the title of Miss Heart of Minden. This is open to all participants from ages 15-18. This is strictly a title of Minden and will not continue her competition in the Miss America Pageant scene but will have numerous opportunities throughout her reign to represent the club and the city.

This year the title of Miss Minden is open to not only those who dwell in the city limits, but to anyone statewide.

For those who may be interested an informational meeting will be held this Sunday, November 10 at 3 p.m. at the View on Main, 611 Main Street, Minden. Reigning Miss Louisiana Olivia Grace George will also be in attendance to answer any questions and speak on her experience with the Miss America Organization.

“We would love to see all the young ladies who would like to compete in the pageant,” said Davis. “This is only one way the club will show support to participants throughout this process and we will continue to support our new titleholders as they go on to compete in Miss Louisiana and Miss Teen Louisiana.”
