In June, 2017, a new business opened in South Main Mall, in Springhill. It was called Peaches Porch and served a wonderful breakfast and good ole home-cooked American comfort food for lunch. On November 17, owner Gwen Cooper Greene will serve her last meal at that location.
Mrs. Greene has been a loyal community-minded Christian business woman. She has served several hundred people a good Thanksgiving meal that was FREE! Sometimes she had others that contributed to the cost and then at other times Mrs. Greene fed them out of her own pocket. On Veterans day, every Veteran ate free at both breakfast and lunch. If a hungry person came to her door and didn’t have money, it didn’t matter, they ate! She has said many times that THE Spirit moved her to do what she has loved doing.
Even though Peaches Porch will be closed, Mrs. Greene will distribute free plates of Thanksgiving food with the help of various organizations and cooks at the CAC Building on Church St. from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Saturday, November 23. This will be pick up only and one (1) plate per person. If you would like to help and be part of this, please contact PEACHES PORCH before Sunday, November 17.
“As I prepare to close my café after seven wonderful years, I am overwhelmed by the relationships and memories created within this community,” Gwen Greene said. “I thank God for allowing me to connect and serve so many people during this time. Thanks to each and everyone who supported me along this amazing journey. I love y’all!”
Main Street and people from all around will miss GWEN GREENE, her smiling face and, of course, her COOKING!
