Public invited to experience ‘Once Upon a Night’

Once Upon a Night, a Christmas Cantata, will be performed by First Methodist Church of Minden’s Chancel Choir at 6 p.m. Sunday, December 15.

Written as a prequel to Pepper Choplin’s best-selling Easter work, Once Upon a Tree, this cantata follows closely the first two chapters of Luke. As the narrator, Luke, who will be played by Judge Parker Self, leads worshippers through the story as he writes and reflects on the power and significance of the events.

From the struggle and unbelief of Zechariah, sung by Mickey Love to the innocent faith of Mary, Melanie Comb, from the exuberance of the shepherds to the quiet joy of Simeon, Luke reveals the real human emotions of the story. Listeners are able to identify with the characters and experience the Christmas event in a deeply personal way.

The music is dramatic and is enriched with the masterful orchestrations of Brant Adams. The choir will perform with orchestra, directed by Dr. Dan Gibbs.

The church is located at 903 Broadway, Minden. Please join First Methodist Church, Rev. Steve Berger, pastor, as they bring to life Luke’s account of this ultimate story of love.
