MAC president speaks to Lions Thursday

Guest speaker for Thursday’s noon meeting of the Minden Lions Club will be Trey Giglio, president of the Military Affairs Council. He will speak on how the Military Affairs Council works to enhance relationships between Barksdale Air Force Base and the community. He will also give an update on the upcoming BAFB Air Show.

A native of Shreveport, Trey graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University, where he was awarded the Turner Engineering Award, which recognizes the top overall graduating engineer. Trey has served on numerous boards of Texas A&M, including the University Rules and Regulations Committee, the Vision 2020 Master Plan Commission, and the Academic Appeals Panel, where he oversaw final grades, suspensions, and expulsions from the university.

Professionally, Trey is the vice-president of Universal Mechanical and Universal Plumbing Co. He holds master licenses in plumbing, mechanical, electrical, general construction, and municipal and public works construction along with numerous specialty certifications. The firm serves residential and commercial clients in north Louisiana and east Texas. In 2010, his firm was recognized by BusinessWeek as one of the 100 fastest-growing inner-city based companies in the US. In 2011, his firm was named Louisiana’s Business of the Year.

Giglio was the 2018 chairman of the Independence Bowl Foundation, which was the culmination of a six- year Executive Committee term. He served as the youngest bowl chairman in the history of college football. He remains responsible for numerous committees and advises the Foundation on major negotiations.

Trey was appointed by then-Gov. John Bel Edwards to the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana in 2019 and serves as the Building Committee chairman. He serves as president-elect of the Louisiana Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association and is chairman of the Convention Committee. Trey has served on the board of directors for the Rotary Club of Shreveport, where he is the past chairman of membership and the Petroleum Club of Shreveport, where he is the past president.

He currently serves as President of the Military Affairs Council and on the board of directors for Catholic Charities of North Louisiana (vice-president), Junior Achievement, and Caddo Career and Technology Center Foundation.  He is a member of numerous civic organizations including the Committee of 100, Ark-La-Tex Ambassadors and Cotillion Club. In 2015, he was recognized in the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce’s 40 Under 40 class. In 2020, Trey was appointed Honorary Commander of the U.S. Air Force 2nd Mission Support Group at Barksdale Air Force Base.

In his spare time, Trey is a NCAA Division I football official and serves as president of the Shreveport Football Officials Association. He is married to Sarah Giglio, a local attorney, and they reside in Shreveport.
