A Springhill man has been killed after he was struck in the head when bullets were fired into his home Saturday night in what police are saying was a shooting in retaliation for an incident earlier that day.
Chief of Police Will Lynd identified the victim as Norman Evans Jr., reportedly in his 50s, who lived on 3rd St. SE. Evans reportedly was watching television when he was struck once in the head.
Lynd said his officers have arrested 17-year-old Dereon Reese in connection with the death. He reportedly has been charged with manslaughter and is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center under $250,000 bond.
According to information from the chief, two groups of young persons had been involved in an altercation earlier in the day Saturday and one group fired shots toward the other. No one reportedly was injured in that shooting incident.
In retaliation, Reese allegedly drove to the Evans residence and fired shots into the home where two other individuals reportedly were inside. No one else was hit by the gunfire.
Lynd said Reese confessed to firing the shots when he was questioned at police headquarters Sunday.
