Dorcheat Museum releases new book by Gorman

By Paige Gurgainers

The Dorcheat Historical Association Museum is excited to announce the release of its newest book – Historically Speaking: Part III, written by museum director herself, Jessica Gorman.

This book is the third part of the series that is a compilation of articles the parish has grown to love and look forward to reading week by week in the Webster Parish Journal. It also includes news from the museum, photographs and information shared on social media.

“These books serve two very important purposes. First, they are one way that we serve our mission of preserving and sharing the history of Webster Parish,” explained Gorman. “Secondly, they serve as a source of income for the museum. Every book purchased is a direct investment in the continued preservation of our local history.”

According to Gorman, all museum books are published through a self-publishing company. Each book starts with a basic template and as each article is written, it is added to the book. Same with social media posts. As they are posted, they get added.

“By the end of the year, all I have to do is check the formatting, layout, etc. to make sure everything is correct,” said Gorman. “Basically, I do everything from the research and writing to the cover design and then upload everything to the company to be printed.”

Copies of parts one, two and three of Historically Speaking are $25.00 and can be purchased at the museum or at https://www.dorcheatmuseum.com/product-page/historically-speaking-part-iii.
