Letter: the importance of life insurance

Dear Editor:

Politicians aiming to enhance the financial security of Louisiana families should strongly support the life insurance industry. Middle-class families like mine count on life insurance to safeguard their future. With that security, we can save, invest, and build a secure future for ourselves.

In Louisiana, life insurers pay out $3.1 billion each year in life insurance and annuity benefits, which amounts to families receiving $8.5 million every day. In 2022, there were 3.6 million individual life insurance policies in force in Louisiana, averaging $85,000 in death benefit protection. Additionally, the life insurance industry generates 27,900 jobs and invests $69 billion in the state’s economy.

When my husband passed away, his life insurance benefits made it possible for me to continue living and retire from my job. We should continue to support this industry.

By supporting this industry, Congress can help build a more financially secure future for Louisiana families, fostering stability and prosperity for generations to come.
