The Sibley Town Hall met on Monday evening and with all in attendance they unanimously passed an ordinance that was introduced last month.
Ordinance 162 repealed previous ordinances 9-C and 13, setting forth rules and restrictions for governing the Lanesville Cemetery – also known as Lane Memorial Cemetery – located between South Third and South Fourth streets.
“There used to be a few people on the council that were members of the Methodist church that oversees this cemetery,” said Sibley Mayor Robert Smart. “So, the Town of Sibley at the time was responsible for the cemetery, but I think it is best if we let the Lanesville Cemetery Board handle that from here on out.”
Before the approval of the new ordinance renouncing responsibility for the cemetery, the town was responsible for overseeing daily comings and goings which also included issuing penalties when unlawful activities took place on the premises. They also oversaw who was able to purchase plots within the cemetery.
While on the topic of ordinances, the board introduced amending Ordinance 143, an ordinance providing the collection of sales and use tax on “digital products” and providing for the assessment of collections and payments.
According to the monthly reports given by the fire and police department, it was a fairly “slow month,” with exception of the storm that left behind some damage in Dubberly.
The Sibley Town Hall meets every second Monday of the month at 6 p.m.
