
Lakeside’s Eli Campbell laid down a squeeze bunt to drive across the wining run in the bottom of the seventh inning and give the Warriors a Friday split with the Winnfield Tigers.
Winnfield 13, Lakeside 10
Both teams combined for 24 hits as Winnfield managed the win over Lakeside Friday.
Winnfield scored six runs on five hits in the top of the third to take a 6-1 lead, but Lakeside came back to take a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers went back on top in the top of the fifth enroute to the win.
Nickalas Mockosher earned the win for Winnfield giving up no hits and one unearned run over two and two-thirds innings of relief. Brock Case took the loss for the Warriors.
Lakeside collected 11 hits in the game, led by Jake Glass, Case, Gage Williams, and Drake Chreene with two hits each. Jon Jon Dick and Peyton Gray each had multiple steals in the game as the Warriors sped to five stolen bases.
Winnfield had 13 hits in the game with Daniel Luke Page’s three-for-five leading the way.
Lakeside 6, Winnfield 5
Winnfield had jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the top of the third, but the Warriors battled back in the bottom of the fifth scoring on a groundout and a wild pitch.
Aron Guerrero’s RBI single tied the game in the top of the sixth for Winnfield.
Gage Williams earned the win for Lakeside, going all seven innings and giving up 12 hits striking out none and walking one. Daniel Luke Page took the loss for Winnfield.
Williams, Brock Case and Peyton Gray each collected two hits for Lakeside. Jon Jon Dick and Case had multiple stolen bases as the Warriors picked up eight steals in the game.
Caplan Young went three-for-four at the plate to lead the Tigers.
Lakeside girls lose Friday, win Saturday
Friday wasn’t a good beginning of the weekend for the Lakeside Lady Warriors, but a pair of Saturday made everything better over the two-day period.
Pine Prairie 11, Lakeside 0
Pine Prairie rode the strong pitching performance Kynnedi Ware and the power of Ella Fontenot to Friday’s win over Lakeside.
Ware twirled four hitless innings and struck out 11 while giving up just one walk and Fontenot slammed a pair of home runs for five RBI to lead the way.
McKenna Chreene took the loss for Lakeside, going three innings, giving up six runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out five and walking none.
Pine Prairie piled up 10 hits in the game. Fontenot went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with five runs batted in. Cameron Lafleur had three hits in three at bats for Pine Prairie and Fontenot was two-for-three. Ella Ortego had two hits in three at bats.
Next up for Lakeside Varsity Warriors is a game at Grand Lake on Saturday.
Lakeside 17, Florien 1
Emily Jones had a home run and a double to drive in four runs as Lakeside’s Lady Warriors got back on the wining track in a big way Saturday.
Lakeside scored first thanks to a pair of singles and extended their lead on a double by Jones in the top of the third. Seven more runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning and the Lady Warriors were up 10-0. Another seven runs came across in the top of the fifth inning.
McKenna Chreene earned the win, giving up just three hits and one unearned run over five innings. She recorded eight strikeouts gave up no walks.
Lakeside picked up 12 hits in the game led by Jones, Chreene, Maggie Mandino and Meredith Robinson with two hits each.
Lakeside 13, Grand Lake 0
Raleah Harris drove in six runs on three hits to help cap a good Lakeside weekend.
Lakeside got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Harris singled and Maggie Mandino doubled, each scoring two runs.
A single by Harris, a single by Mandino, and a passed ball helped extend the Lady Warriors’ lead in the second. Four more runs came across in the bottom of the third, thanks to RBI singles by Harris and Teal Austin.
McKenna Chreene earned the win, giving up only one hit over three innings, striking out four and walking none. Moose Jernigan twirled two innings of shutout ball for Lakeside, allowing one hit, striking out three and walking none.
Harris and Chreene each had three hits for Lakeside and Mandino collected two hits in three at bats.
