
Lakeside advanced to the second round of the LHSAA Division III (Non-Select) state baseball playoffs with a pair of Saturday wins over the Crowley Gents to take the best of three series in just two games.
With the win, the number 13 seed Warriors will move on to met number four seed Westlake in another best of three series. Second round games are scheduled April 23-26.
(Game one) Lakeside 15, Crowley 5
Crowley got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning when Braylon Ordogne tripled, scoring two runs, and Ordogne scored on a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the second inning, Lakeside took a 5-4 lead on an Eli Campbell ground out, a Jake Glass sacrifice fly and RBI singles by Noah Redding and Peyton Gray.
After Crowley regained the lead 5-4, the Warriors broke it open in the bottom of the fourth with six run on five hits to take a commanding 10-5 lead. Biggest blow in the inning was a double by Jon Jon Dick that drove in two.
Five more Lakeside runs came across in the bottom of the fifth on three hits. Gray drew an RBI walk, Brock Case doubled, scoring two runs and Dick and Drake Chreene added RBI singles.
Gage Williams earned the win for Lakeside and Maddix Richard took the loss for Crowley.
Lakeside had 13 hits in the game with Chreene, Dick, Eric Jones, and Redding each collecting two. Dick and Gray each drove in two runs. The Warriors stole eight bases in the game.
(Game 2) Lakeside 8, Crowley 2
Lakeside built their winning margin a few runs at a time to take the clincher Saturday, scoring in the first inning on a Jon Jon Dick RBI single.
A single by Peyton Gray extended the Warriors lead to 2-0 in the top of the second inning, then two more crossed the plate in the top of the third when Eli Campbell connected for an RBI single, then later stole home.
Gray earned the win for the Warriors. The starter allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, struck out two and recorded no walks. Braylon Ordogne took the loss for Crowley.
Gray had three hits in five at bats to lead Lakeside hitters while Dick had two hits and two RBI. Brock Case, Campbell, and Gage Williams each had multiple hits. Lakeside stole eight bases in the game.
Crowley’s Zein Deville led Crowley with two hits in two at bats.
