Council votes in favor of bond issuance for rec center improvements

Minden City Council adopted a resolution Monday authorizing the City of Minden to proceed with the issuance of (not to exceed) $10,500,000 of sales tax revenue bonds to help with the enhancement of the Recreation Center.

Minden Mayor Nick Cox said the Minden Rec Center is run from a sewer/rec tax revenue that has been in place since April 15, 2000.

“This way, we don’t have to get a new tax to make our enhancements,” Cox said. “And by anchoring the tax to the bonds, not only will our interest rates go down, we can pay the money off in 20 years instead of 30.”

In other business, the council voted for the following:

• Selection of Minden Press-Herald as official journal;

• Adopt resolution declaring certain City of Minden property as surplus and fixing the terms of sale (miscellaneous items);

• Adopt Ordinance No. 1155 to amend and reenact the Code of Ordinances as it applies to alcoholic beverages;

• Adopt Ordinance No. 1156 to amend and reenact the Code of Ordinances as it applies to home occupations permitted and Article 25, definitions;

• Adopt Ordinance No. 1157 to amend and reenact the Code of Ordinances for buildings and building regulations as they apply to mobile and manufactured buildings and homes;

• Adopt Ordinance No. 1158 to donate property to the Webster Parish Police Jury. During the Minden City Council’s May 5, 2025 regular session, the council voted to donate property at 700 Constable Street to the Webster Parish Police Jury. The adoption of an ordinance is necessary to donate immovable property.
