Well the hot summer is getting started. Your garden and flower beds are really looking good. Here comes the bugs, hungry and needing to take over the young vegetables and flowers. With your garden you have to be pretty particular with what you dust or spray them with. There are many chemicals that are not labeled for vegetables. Fertilome has many organic options for you to choose from.
When a product has “OMRI ” it is in the organic category. A few of these products are Caterpillar Killer with BT, and Triple Action. The BT is great for worms and caterpillars. BT is a really old product, one of the few older products that is still around. Triple Action is a 3way product. It is labeled for insects, diseases, and mites. You can spray vegetables up until the day of harvest with both of these products.
Another product that is safe for your garden is Hi-Yield Garden & Farm Insect Control. This is good for not only garden use, but also for fleas, ticks, and ants. It comes in as a dust or spray. Most of the vegetables are labeled to spray up to 1 day till harvest.
Another good spray is Neem Oil. It has the label for organic gardening. Controls blackspot, rust, spider mites, aphids, and whiteflies. A great product and easy to use.
After all of the heavy rain that we’ve had, we are having lots of bugs and fungus. I hope that some of these products will help you to take care of business.
