The Minden Evening Lions Club: A small but mighty force in the community

By Shannon Wright

You may have heard of the Minden Lions Club, but did you know Minden is home to two Lions Clubs?

The Minden Evening Lions Club, established in 1959, has consistently served the community for more than six decades—and they’re just as active and passionate today as ever.

The Evening Club was created to give hardworking citizens, like postal workers and others with daytime jobs, an opportunity to participate in the Lions’ mission of service. While the original club met during lunchtime, many couldn’t attend due to their working hours. So, in true Lions spirit, they adapted—and the Evening Lions Club was born.

Despite being a smaller club, their impact is anything but small.

“I really applaud the energy that small club has in number,” said Jerry Madden. “There is not a week that goes by that they aren’t doing something for this community.”

And he’s right. Just recently, the Minden Evening Lions donated fans to the Webster Council on Aging and gifted custom-made onesies to the Seeds Women’s Center. They also set up at Grilling on Main to hand out free cold water. Their compassion and commitment are felt in all corners of the community.

One of their most visible and important contributions each year is during the Minden Fair, where the Evening Lions play a big role in making the event successful and enjoyable for all.

Their work is ongoing, and their hearts for service run deep. Whether they’re meeting a need or simply lending a helping hand, the Minden Evening Lions prove that dedication, not size, defines impact.

The club meets on the first and third Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Minden Fairgrounds (800 Goodwill Street). New members are always welcome.
