Louisiana State Police Troop G, in collaboration with the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office, will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Webster Parish Friday, July 4, weather and traffic conditions permitting.
Mission of the checkpoint will be to intercept and incarcerate impaired drivers before they can cause injury or death to themselves, their passengers, or members of the public. Drivers are less likely to be impaired when they recognize the increased probability of law enforcement action.
All residents are urged to make the responsible choice and designate a sober driver. Remember, “You drink, You drive, You lose!”
“We certainly want everyone to enjoy themselves on the Fourth, but we also encourage everyone to act responsibly,” Sheriff Jason Parker said. “We also don’t want to see a happy day turned into a tragic one, so please don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve been celebrating a little too much.”
Parker said friends are those who recognize when someone has had too much holiday celebration and aren’t afraid to take appropriate action.
“We’ve always heard a friend never lets a friend drive while impaired, and that’s more than just an old saying,” he said. “Do not be afraid to take away someone’s keys. You could be saving a life.”
To report aggressive or impaired driving, call *LSP (*577) from a cellular phone or contact your local law enforcement agency.
