It’s getting to fall and you can still have a whole new garden to tend to. Snap beans, mustard, turnip and kale are just a few. You will need to be more caring of the watering than in the late spring. It would be nice to have these fresh vegetables to serve at your table this fall.
One of my favorite customers, Al Davis, used to plant potatoes in the fall and raise a good crop. He was one of the best gardeners of all of Minden. Many folks went on Highway 80 during the summer just to buy tomatoes from Mr. Davis. He loved to visit with you also. If I remember right, his favorite tomato to grow was the Parks Whopper. We still sell those, he would be pleased. When Mr. Al died , he left his estate to St. Jude Hospital. That really was a fine gesture.
School has started and my worm bed partner, Duke, had to go to the 3rd grade. Our project was fun but grew out of our 5 gallon buckets. We decided to put them in one of my above ground garden beds. I bet they are breathing a good sigh of relief to have so much new space to stretch out in. We have learned a lot this summer and had a great time. I hope at the next summer break we can find a new project to work on.
Now is a good time to get your soil samples done for next year. You ought to get them back faster in the fall. Go to the LSU Ag sight to get the forms. Have a great week.
