Breaking News: City Council votes unanimously to terminate Minden Police Officer

For the second time in a month, the Minden City Council voted unanimously to terminate a police officer.

Jason Smith, a former lieutenant and detective with Minden Police, was the subject of a special council session where they addressed Chief Jared McIver’s request for Smith’s termination, due to “conduct that occurred on or about June 23, 2025.”

Despite the urging of his attorney, Pamela Breedlove, Smith’s request to have an open meeting was denied by the council on the recommendation of Attorney for the City Aaron Green and the situation was addressed for approximately one hour and 10 minutes in executive session.

On August 5, 2025, the council voted unanimously to terminate Lt. Christopher Hammontree also for unbecoming conduct that occurred on or about May 23, 2025.
