A Webster Parish man died Wednesday as the result of an apparent accidental gunshot wound at his Dorcheat Rd. residence near the Evergreen community.

Sheriff Jason Parker identified the victim as 23-year-old Dalton Taylor. He reportedly was taken to Minden Medical Center by private vehicle where he was attended by emergency room staff, but succumbed to his injury.

Parker said deputies were dispatched around 5 p.m. to MMC after receiving reports of a victim with a gunshot wound.

“We began investigative measures and after interviewing witnesses it was determined the death was accidental, not the result of foul play,” Parker said. “Apparently his handgun accidentally discharged, striking him in the lower abdomen.”

Parker said the body has been sent to Little Rock, Ark. for an autopsy.

“This is truly a tragic event and we offer our sincerest condolences to his family and friends,” he said. “They will be in our prayers.”
