The Lakeside Warriors started slow but pulled away late to open their season with a convincing 30-14 victory over the Arcadia Hornets.

The Warriors trailed after one quarter of action but got the ball rolling late in second quarter action when senior quarterback Brock Case dropped back and found junior Eric Jones on a screen pass for a 50-yard touchdown. Lakeside took the lead at 8-7 on the two-point conversion try as Case dropped back once again, this time connecting with junior tight end Gage Williams.

The second half was dominated by the Warriors who went to work on the ground, putting the game in the hands of Case and fellow senior bruiser Kentravion Miller. After a trio of big runs by Miller softened up the Hornet defense, Case pitched the ball to freshman halfback Jaden Clark who worked his way into the endzone from 15-yards out behind the blocking of Jones, senior wideout Noah Redding and offensive tackle Kameron Lewis. Miller sliced through Arcadia for the successful two-point try to make the score 16-7.

With Lakeside’s defense digging in and shutting down a tiring Arcadia squad, the Warriors began the next offensive possession with good field position and little resistance, capping a methodical drive with Miller’s first touchdown of the season from a few yards out as third quarter action came to a close.

After an interception by Lakeside defensive end Remington Arender set up the offense inside the Arcadia 30-yard line, the Warriors needed just two plays to cash in their final score of the night on a 4-yard completion from Case to Redding. Miller waltzed in for the successful two-point conversion to make the score 30-7 with just over six minutes remaining, ending any hope for the Hornets.

Lakeside will look to start faster and build on the positive momentum as they travel to LaSalle
(0-1) in week two.
