The Village of Dixie Inn met in special session on September 26 at 4:15 p.m. to take a look at more ordinances that have been earmarked for change before proposed annexation of surrounding properties can be considered.
Two ordinances, #99-G to amend the pay scale of new officers and #104-A to change the Village employees’ health insurance scale to 75 percent paid by Dixie Inn, 25 percent paid by the employee were both approved unanimously.
Changes in Ordinance #82-C, which outlaws burning of waste/trash within the Village limits, was also discussed.
“Right now, nothing can be burned,” Chief Jeffrey O’Neill pointed out. He referred to a similar ordinance for the Town of Sibley, but which allows for the burning of household trash. He also pointed out that the landowner is liable for damages caused by “an open flame” on their property, not the municipality.
“Our ordinance needs to be rewritten,” he remarked.
Alderman Judy McKenzie agreed, saying “This (ordinance) is not working, and it’s got to go.” Alderman Lance Milligan proposed that revisions be made to Ordinance #82-C for presentation to the residents at the next meeting. Proposal passed unanimously.
In other business, the Board:
- Accepted the resignation of Police Officer Cody Dooly;
- Approved a $2,210 bid from Osbon Electric to remove the ballasts and existing fluorescent bulbs from the Village Hall building and to retrofit them with LEDs, and to remove the existing wall-pack from the front door and to reinstall it on the building directly across from it, and to replace seven 120-volt receptacles in the park area.
