A Minden man already behind bars at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center is now facing additional drug and weapons charges after Webster Parish Sheriff’s detectives found illegal drugs and weapons at his residence.

Sheriff Jason Parker said 30-year-old Calvin Ray Manning is now looking at charges of possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana) with intent to distribute and possession of CDS Sch. I (synthetic marijuana) with intent to distribute.

Manning, a convicted felon, is looking at one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is also charged with possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS and possession of CDS in the presence of juveniles. Bond on the additional counts totals $90,000.

Manning was first arrested Oct. 9 by Sheriff’s detectives after a traffic stop on Middle Rd. He was arrested and charged with possession of CDS Sch. II (crack cocaine) with intent to distribute, simple possession of marijuana and traffic violations. Bond for those offense was $25,004.

Parker said detectives continued to investigate after the initial arrest and collected enough evidence to obtain a search warrant. Detective Ben Allen, Sgt. Josh McCormick and Lt. Charles Wimberly enforced the warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Wiggins Lane.

“Even though our detectives made an arrest a few days earlier, they continued to gather evidence,” said Maj. Bobby Igo III, head of the Sheriff’s Drug and Criminal Investigation Unit. “Using standard investigative techniques, they collected enough information to get a warrant and get these drugs and weapons off our streets.”

During their search, investigators reportedly located four large bags of suspected marijuana, one large bag of suspected synthetic marijuana, 17 small bags of suspected synthetic marijuana packaged for sale and one THC hash cookie. Three firearms were also found.

Investigators said two small children reside at the address and were present when the illegal narcotics were inside.

During questioning at BDCC, Manning reportedly admitted the illegal drugs and firearms belonged to him.
