Children: drop your letters to Santa at Minden City Hall

By Paige Gurgainers

Children in Minden now have a direct line to the North Pole, thanks to a special red-and-white “Letters to Santa” mailbox unveiled outside City Hall during a press conference on Friday, November 21. The event, which was streamed live on the City of Minden’s Facebook page, marked the start of a new holiday tradition for the community.

Mayor Nick Cox said the idea originated from a very “Santa-esque” request: Santa himself asked City Hall for a place where children’s thoughtful and imaginative letters could be collected.

He described the full-size, postal-style mailbox as a symbol of Christmas spirit and craftsmanship provided by a handful of community leaders including Patony Marrow, Jordan Tanner, Morris Busby, Tracy Campbell, Sarah Overall and Perryman Welding.

During the event, Santa and Mrs. Claus made a special appearance. Santa reassured children that he would read every letter dropped into the box, joking that even the little requests from “not-so-good” kids get consideration.

City officials said the mailbox will remain open for children to drop off letters through December 20. Families are encouraged to write their Christmas wishes and include a return address so Santa can respond.

The unveiling of the mailbox comes ahead of Minden’s annual “Christmas in Minden” celebration, scheduled for December 12–13. The event will feature the city’s traditional Christmas tree lighting, plus a parade (where Santa may be expected to make another appearance) and other holiday activities.
