“When you choose to eat local you are not only buying a meal, but you are investing in that business, their employees and the local economy.”
That powerful statement, shared by Greater Minden Chamber Finance Chair Teresa Little, is at the heart of a growing initiative that continues to bring people to local restaurants across the community.
The Greater Minden Chamber launched its “Lunch Mob” events in 2024, kicking things off at Ol’ West BBQ. Since then, the gatherings have become a steady way to support local businesses while also strengthening connections among Chamber members.
Most recently, the group gathered at Acadiana Seafood, located on Highway 80 between Minden and Dixie Inn. The concept is simple but effective. Chamber members intentionally “mob” a local restaurant during lunchtime, boosting business while creating a relaxed space for networking.
“It gives restaurants a spotlight to people who might not know who we are and a boost for my business,” said Jeff Swilley, co-owner of Acadiana Seafood. “I love having the lunch mob.”
Each restaurant selected for a Lunch Mob is a Chamber member, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to supporting those who invest in the local economy.
Lunch Mobs encourage business professionals and local residents to try new places, support their neighbors, and build relationships that extend beyond the lunch hour. It’s networking without the pressure.
“Local businesses are the backbone of small towns,” Little said, “Lunch mobs are an easy way to show our support to the small businesses in our community.”
As the Lunch Mob tradition continues to grow, it serves as a reminder that supporting local can be as simple as showing up and sharing a meal.
