Minden Medical Center will host its first Alzheimer’s Support Group through the hospital’s Freedom Behavioral Hospital of Minden beginning at 2 p.m. in the Minden Medical Center cafeteria.
The support group is open to family members, caregivers, friends, and individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The gathering will provide a welcoming environment where participants can share experiences, receive emotional support, and learn practical strategies for navigating the challenges that come with memory-related illnesses.
Organizers say the group will offer valuable information and encouragement for those impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia, while also creating an opportunity to connect with others who understand the journey.
“Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia can feel overwhelming at times. As a nurse and as someone who has watched my own family care for my beloved grandmother through this disease, I understand how challenging that journey can be,” said LaGwina Garner, Nurse Manager of the Freedom Behavioral Unit. “This support group is designed to bring caregivers and families together, provide helpful resources, and remind people that they are not alone. My hope is that our community will come out, connect with one another, and find the support and encouragement they deserve.”
Participants can expect discussions focused on coping strategies, caregiving tips, and available community resources, as well as open conversation with others who have been affected by these conditions.
The Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet in the Minden Medical Center cafeteria and is free to attend.
