Fire destroys residence on Constable Street, Minden

By Bonnie Culverhouse

Minden firefighters battled a residential fire Wednesday evening in the 500 block of Constable Street, where one home was demolished and another damaged.

Chief Brian Williams said his department received the call at 7:44 p.m. and arrived on the scene within four minutes.

“Engine 3 arrived on the scene to find a fully involved house fire with an exposure to the home next door,” Williams said. “The home next door suffered some damage. It took us about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.”

There was no one at home in the primary structure, he added.

By 9:30 p.m., Williams said firefighters were working on hotspots and would continue to check for more hotspots every 30 minutes throughout the night or until they were satisfied the fire was fully extinguished.

The peer and beam structure was completely destroyed, however, cause of the fire is still undetermined.

“The fire marshal is on the scene now,” the chief said last night.
