Today’s CASA event will be powerful ceremony

A powerful ceremony focused on hope, healing and advocacy is taking place today in Minden.

Volunteers for Youth Justice, through its Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program, will host its annual Light of Hope event  at 10:30 a.m. today (April 16) at the Minden Civic Center.

The ceremony is held each year during Child Abuse Prevention Month, serving as both a remembrance for children who have experienced abuse and neglect and a call to action for the community to get involved.

Organizers say the event is designed to shine a light on the realities many children face, while also highlighting the impact CASA volunteers have in giving those children a voice in the court system.

CASA volunteers are trained advocates who are appointed by judges to represent the best interests of children in foster care or unsafe living situations. Through their work, they help ensure each child’s story is heard and that they have a better chance at finding safe, permanent homes.

The Light of Hope ceremony typically includes moments of reflection, community speakers and symbolic elements that honor the resilience of children and the importance of support systems.

Community members, leaders and supporters are invited to attend and stand alongside advocates in raising awareness and showing support for vulnerable youth across Webster Parish and surrounding areas.

Organizers hope the event not only brings awareness but also encourages more people to consider becoming CASA volunteers or finding other ways to support children in need.

For those attending, the message is simple: even in difficult circumstances, hope can shine bright, and the community plays a vital role in keeping that light alive.
