Reef snags Shreveport man; drug charges filed

A Shreveport man who reportedly has served a lengthy prison sentence for distribution of illegal drugs is back in hot water with the law, thanks to the sensitive nose of a special Minden police officer.

Minden Chief of Police Jared McIver said 69-year-old Andy George was arrested Sunday after K9 Officer Reef sniffed out narcotics in his vehicle following a traffic stop.

George, a resident of the 1300 block Rex Ave. in Shreveport, is charged with possession of CDS Sch. II (cocaine), possession of CDS Sch. II (crack cocaine) with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic offenses including speeding, failure to signal turn and no drivers license.

He is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Facility where no bond has been set.

MPD Officer Kendale Booker reportedly conducted a traffic stop just before 9:45 p.m. in the Talton/Peach streets area, and while interviewing the driver observed suspicious behavior.

After being granted permission to search the vehicle, which was later withdrawn, Booker called on Reef for an open-air search. Reef’s positive alert resulted in a search of the vehicle which uncovered 12.4 grams crack cocaine, 1.8 grams powder cocaine and several plastic bags commonly used to package narcotics.

George reportedly was previously convicted to 30 years in prison for distribution of cocaine. He reportedly was released on parole after serving approximately 20 years.
