Sibley has been selected as one of only 750 communities nationwide to receive a 2026 AARP Community Challenge Grant through AARP’s Livable Communities initiative and AARP Louisiana.
Funding from the grant will support the next phase of the Town’s recreation area improvement project by adding additional shaded picnic tables near the community playground.
These improvements will provide comfortable gathering spaces for families, older adults, caregivers, and visitors while encouraging outdoor recreation and social engagement.
“We are incredibly grateful to AARP and AARP Louisiana for recognizing the Town of Sibley’s vision for a more livable community,” said Mayor Robert Smart. “These shaded picnic tables will create welcoming spaces where residents of all ages can rest, connect, and enjoy our recreational facilities. This investment helps us continue building a community that is inclusive, accessible, and family-friendly.”
The recreation area has become a popular destination for residents, featuring a walking track, playground, splash pad, and community gathering spaces.
Addition of shaded seating areas will further enhance the park’s usability during Louisiana’s warm weather while supporting the Town’s goal of creating amenities that serve multiple generations.
This highly competitive grant program supports projects that create vibrant, safe, and accessible communities for residents of all ages. The Town of Sibley received this investment as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing quality of life and expanding recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
The AARP Community Challenge grant program funds quick-action projects that can make a meaningful impact in communities nationwide.
Sibley joins hundreds of communities across the country that are implementing innovative solutions to improve public spaces, transportation, housing, digital connectivity, and community engagement.
