Power reportedly restored to city

Power has been reportedly restored to all of Minden, following Monday’s outage.

The city-wide power outage was the result of a transmission line issue along Bayou Avenue.

Weather conditions were the biggest challenge, with lightning, thunder and rain preventing a quick resolution due to line crew safety.

“While they were focused on restoring service, the storm created additional challenges across Minden, including downed trees and limbs that required attention throughout the night,” Mayor Nick Cox said.

There were downed trees and power lines all over the city.

“This was truly a team effort,” he continued. “In addition to our electric department, our police officers, firefighters, public works crews, city administration and members of the city council all responded to help keep our community safe and support the restoration effort.”

Police officers, including Chief Jared McIver, were at the heavily-traveled intersections, directing traffic, while firefighters aided with downed trees and other emergencies.

The mayor thanked Entergy for their assistance so crews could safely complete the repairs and Hugh Wood for cooking meals for all involved.

“Most importantly, I want to thank the citizens of Minden for their patience and understanding. We know a city-wide outage is disruptive, and we appreciate the cooperation shown by our community while our teams worked to restore power and respond to the additional storm damage,” he said.
