Sibley’s new outreach session: Budgeting and saving

For many people, budgeting can feel intimidating. Between rising grocery bills, unexpected expenses and the demands of everyday life, knowing where to start is often the hardest part.

The Town of Sibley hopes to change that.

On Thursday, Aug. 27, the town will partner with Gibsland Bank & Trust (GBT Bank) to host “Budgeting & Saving in 2026,” a free community outreach session designed to help individuals and families build healthier financial habits and create a stronger foundation for the future.

The event begins at 10 a.m. at Sibley Town Hall, where community members are invited to gather for a practical conversation about managing money in today’s economy.

While financial planning often seems like something reserved for accountants or investment professionals, organizers say the goal of this event is just the opposite. It’s about breaking budgeting down into simple, achievable steps that anyone can understand and apply to everyday life.

Whether someone is working to pay off debt, save for a child’s education, prepare for retirement or simply make their paycheck go a little further each month, the workshop is designed to provide practical tools rather than complicated financial jargon.

Participants will learn how to create a budget that works for their lifestyle, discover why financial experts encourage people to “pay themselves first” through consistent saving and identify small changes that can add up to meaningful financial progress over time.

In a time when many households are feeling the effects of inflation and rising living expenses, organizers believe financial education has never been more valuable. Learning how to make informed financial decisions isn’t just about saving money… it’s about reducing stress, preparing for life’s unexpected moments and creating opportunities for the future.

Events like this also reflect the role community banks continue to play beyond traditional banking services. Through educational outreach, GBT Bank hopes to equip residents with the knowledge and confidence to make sound financial decisions long after the workshop ends.

The session is free and open to the public. Whether you’re just beginning your financial journey or simply looking for a few new budgeting strategies, the event promises practical advice that can be put into action immediately.
