Melancon announces candidacy for Springhill Mayor

I Am Running for Mayor of Springhill

I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Mayor of Springhill in the November 3, 2026, election. I am running with a commitment to practical leadership, thoughtful planning, clear communication, and responsible stewardship of public funds.

For more than 41 years, I have been proud to call Springhill home. During that time, I have had the privilege of serving our community through local government, healthcare, nonprofit leadership, and community development. I currently serve as Alderman for District 5, work in Human Resources and Marketing at Springhill Medical Center and will retire December 11, 2026, and serve as Executive Director of The Fuller Center for Housing of Webster Parish.

Springhill is a wonderful community with a proud history and tremendous potential. I am running for Mayor because I believe we can build an even stronger future through careful planning, responsible financial management, open communication, and a shared commitment to our community.

My priorities include modernizing city operations, improving infrastructure, strengthening communication with residents, encouraging responsible economic growth, and ensuring that city resources are managed carefully and effectively.

Residents deserve clear and timely information about city services, upcoming projects, public meetings, and the decisions that affect their families and businesses. Strong communication helps build trust and gives everyone an opportunity to participate in shaping the future of our city.

I believe Springhill must continue investing in its infrastructure while developing a thoughtful, long-term plan for growth. We should regularly review city operations to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, control expenses, strengthen services, and make it easier for residents and businesses to work with City Hall.

Fiscal responsibility will be central to every decision I make. We must carefully manage public funds, pursue available grants and new revenue opportunities, and make investments that provide lasting value to the people of Springhill.

My professional experience includes business management, marketing, human resources, organizational development, and nonprofit leadership. I am a lifelong learner whose educational background includes Parkway High School in Bossier City and continued studies at Louisiana State University Shreveport.

Family is at the heart of who I am. I am the proud parent of three children and three stepdaughters, and I am blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren. They inspire my commitment to helping create a stronger, safer, and more vibrant Springhill for future generations.

I would be honored to serve as your Mayor and work alongside our residents, businesses, city employees, and community organizations. By working together, we can preserve what makes Springhill special while preparing our city for the opportunities ahead.

I respectfully ask for your support on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Vote Derek Melancon, #94, for Mayor of Springhill.

Forward to Our Future.
