Evening lions making a splash with ‘Dunk a Candidate’ fundraiser to sponsor new Cub Club

By Paige Gurgainers

The Minden Evening Lions Club is working to establish a new youth organization designed to teach local children the importance of service, leadership and giving back to their community.

The new Cub Club will offer children opportunities to become involved in age-appropriate service projects while learning the value of helping others. To support the club’s launch and future community efforts, the Lions Club will host a “Dunk a Candidate” fundraiser on Saturday, August 29, at 10 a.m. at the Minden Fairgrounds, located at 804 Goodwill Street.

Several local officials and community leaders are preparing to take the plunge for the cause. Attendees will have the opportunity to dunk the mayor, sheriff, police chief and others throughout the event.

Organizers hope the lighthearted fundraiser will bring the community together while raising money for a program that will encourage the next generation of Minden residents to serve others. Proceeds will help the Cub Club get started and support its efforts to give back throughout the community.

In addition to the dunk tank, attendees can enjoy popcorn, popsicles, drinks and other refreshments.

The public is invited to come out, cheer on the participants and help the Minden Evening Lions Club make a splash for a great cause.
