A local man has managed to pedal his way into the parish prison after police found drugs in his possession during a stop for a traffic violation.

Minden Chief of Police Jared McIver said 53-year-old Broderick D. Harris, a resident of the 900 block of Carolina St., is looking at charges of possession of CDS Sch. II (crack cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia in addition to the traffic violation.

McIver said MPD Officer Cody James stopped Harris Thursday afternoon when he rode his bicycle through a stop sign at the intersection of Plateau and Midland streets. When questioned, Harris reportedly told the officer two crack pipes were in his pants pocket.

After recovering the pipes during a consensual search, the officer asked Harris to remove a cap he was wearing. Harris reportedly removed the cap in a swift, forward motion and a white, rock-like object flew out, striking the window of the officer’s patrol unit.

A check of the object reportedly proved it to be rock cocaine.

Harris is currently held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center where his bond has not been set.

This information has been provided by a law enforcement agency as public information. Persons named as suspects in a criminal investigation, or arrested and charged with a crime, have not been convicted of any criminal offense and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
