Adams resigns as NLMC CEO after less than three months
Northern Louisiana Medical Center is undergoing another leadership change after CEO Monica Adams resigned less than three months after taking the position, according to an announcement from the hospital Monday.
NLMC said Adams resigned for personal and family reasons. Chief Operating Officer Arnie Young has been named interim CEO effective immediately.
Adams’ brief tenure came during a pivotal period for the Ruston hospital as it worked through deficiencies identified by state and federal healthcare regulators and sought to rebuild public confidence in healthcare in Lincoln Parish.
West Monroe man killed in head-on crash
Ouachita Parish – On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, shortly before 1:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 34, just east of Sam Head Road. The crash claimed the life of 19-year-old Rylan Givens of West Monroe.
The initial investigation revealed that a 2012 Ford F-150, driven by Givens, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 34. At the same time, a 2024 Kenworth Tractor, pulling a loaded chip trailer, was traveling east on Highway 34. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford veered left, crossed the centerline, and struck the Kenworth head-on in the eastbound lane.
Givens, who was properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Kenworth, who was properly restrained, received minor injuries. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Three juveniles charged following vehicle burglaries at Homer golf course
Three juveniles were charged following investigations into vehicle burglaries and thefts at the Homer Golf Course during August, according to the Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to numerous reported crimes within the town limits of Homer during the first two weeks of August 2026.
On Aug. 9, CPSO responded to the Homer Golf Course, located at 101 Country Club Circle, after receiving reports that at least seven vehicles had been entered without authorization. At least three vehicles were reportedly burglarized and firearms were stolen.
LDWF Enforcement Division hosting recruiting open house in Ruston this Saturday
The LDWF Enforcement Division Recruiting Section is hosting an open house on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lincoln Parish Library (910 North Trenton St., Ruston). At the recruiting open house enforcement agents will be available to visit with potential candidates to speak about their careers as Wildlife Enforcement Agents, answer questions and provide guidance on the qualifications and application process.

LANE/RAMP CLOSURE: I-20 westbound at LA 526 (Bert Kouns), Caddo Parish
SHREVEPORT, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that beginning on Thursday, August 27, 2026, the outside (right) lane and the I-20 westbound off-ramp to LA 526 (Bert Kouns Ind. Loop) in Shreveport will be closed.
This lane/ramp closure is scheduled to be in place from approximately 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 27th to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28th, and is necessary to allow for permanent roadway striping operations related to the ongoing project to improve safety at the interchange.
The project involves extending the deceleration lane to allow for additional vehicle storage, which enhances safety by allowing extra space for exiting vehicles to move from the higher speed interstate travel lanes.
Motorists should be advised of this temporary ramp closure, and plan accordingly, noting that there may be additional congestion in this area, particularly during peak travel times.
Wanted on felony charge now in custody, DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office says
DESOTO PARISH, La. — A 21-year-old Texas man who was wanted by the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office on a felony charge involving a juvenile is now in custody.
The Sheriff’s Office had identified Zackery Levi Byrd, 21, of Joaquin, Texas, as a wanted suspect on a charge of felony indecent behavior with a juvenile.
DPSO initially released information seeking the public’s assistance in locating Byrd. The agency later updated the notice at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, announcing that the suspect was in custody.
Caddo Jury Acquits Man in 2022 Head-On Collision Near LSUS
A Caddo Parish jury found a Shreveport man not guilty of negligent homicide in connection with a 2022 head-on collision near LSU Shreveport. The verdict was returned Tuesday following trial proceedings in Caddo District Court. Additional details on the defendant and the specific circumstances of the crash are expected from the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office.
Seven Shreveport-Bossier Restaurants Cited for Critical Health Violations
Seven restaurants in the Shreveport-Bossier area received three or more critical health violations during Louisiana Department of Health inspections conducted Aug. 10 through Aug. 16. The state’s retail food health inspections dashboard lists each establishment’s full inspection history and is available to the public at eatsafe.la.gov — filtering by Caddo and Bossier parishes for inspections dated Aug. 10-16, 2026.
Drawdown scheduled for Henderson Lake: August 24, 2026 through November 2, 2026
Continuing their long-standing collaboration to enhance the overall health of Henderson Lake, and based on the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recommendations, the St. Martin Parish Government has scheduled a drawdown for Henderson Lake in St. Martin Parish to help manage invasive aquatic vegetation and improve fisheries habitat.
