A Homer woman’s failed attempt to outrun local police in an effort to avoid a theft charge has run her into a cell in the parish jail.

Minden Chief of Police Jared McIver said officers were called to Walmart regarding a theft and learned the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Jasmine Tkeyan Evans, had fled on foot to Country Club Circle.

Officers received a description of the suspect and after a brief search, spotted her in the 100 block of Country Club. She reportedly ran into a wooded area, but stopped when commanded to do so by officers.

When questioned, Evans reportedly gave officers a false name and later admitted her true identity. She also reportedly admitted she was in possession of methamphetamines. Officer reportedly retrieved 1.3 grams of the narcotic.

Evans is currently lodged in the parish jail where she is looking at charges of theft, resisting an officer by flight, resisting by false ID and possession of CDS Sch. II (methamphetamines). Bond has been set at $1,501.

This information has been provided by a law enforcement agency as public information. Persons named as suspects in a criminal investigation, or arrested and charged with a crime, have not been convicted of any criminal offense and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
