I am Patricia Ann McMurray, a candidate for District 3 on the Webster Parish School Board.
“At such a time as this”, experienced, committed, and forward-thinking leadership matters.
My decision to seek this position is centered on one primary commitment: providing every child in Webster Parish with the opportunity to receive a quality education and achieve his or her full potential. Additional reasons for running are:
- A desire to advocate for ALL students, ensuring that every child has access to quality educational opportunities
- A desire to become part of the educational decision-making process within our community concerning our schools
- A desire to work with the administration and other Board members to increase student academic achievement, standards and success
- The desire to practice responsible stewardship of taxpayers dollars, balancing the financial needs of our schools with affordability for the citizens of Webster Parish,
- The strong ability for forward thinking
- I come from a family of educators, including my father who was a Webster Parish Elementary Principal
What qualifies me as a viable candidate for the Board:
- I am a graduate of the Webster Parish Public Schools
- Bachelor of Science from Grambling College (Grambling State University)
- Master of Science Louisiana Tech University
- University of Arkansas-Fayetteville (Principal’s Certification/Certification in
Recreation) - University of Arkansas-Little Rock (60 additional hours in Educational Leadership)
- 33 years as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal
- Associate Director of Intramurals and Instructor in Health & Physical Education
University of Arkansas-Fayetteville-5 years - Completion of Phase I of the Arkansas Master Principal Institute (You must apply, be accepted and have the approval of your Superintendent)
- High School Athletic Director
- Presenter at National Middle School Conference
Presenter at National Intramural/Recreational Sports Conference - Member of the Springhill Medical Center Board of Directors & President of the SMC
Foundation - Secretary/Treasurer of the Thomasville Water System, Inc
- Past Two-Term President of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.-lota Rho Omega Chapter
- Member of the Social Justice Civic League (Co-Educational Liaison)
- Treasurer of the St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church
