PROJECT COMPLETE: I-20 striping & pavement markings, Bossier & Webster parishes
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the completion of a recent project that refreshed all the pavement markings on a stretch of I-20 in Bossier and Webster Parishes. The project, which began in early August, wrapped up approximately a month ahead of schedule.
The $378,952 project involved removing and replacing all the roadway striping and reflectorized markings on I-20 from the I-220 interchange in Bossier City to the US 371 interchange in Dixie Inn in Webster Parish. This also included all the on and off-ramps at each interchange along the project length.
Oklahoma woman killed, passenger injured in single-vehicle Bossier Parish crash
Plain Dealing – This morning, at approximately 12:25 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single-vehicle crash on Demoss Hill Road near Old Plain Dealing Road. The crash claimed the life of 31-year-old Amelia Swindell of Tulsa, OK. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Nissan Sentra, driven by Swindell, was traveling west on Demoss Hill Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan exited the roadway and collided with a tree. Swindell, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle, who was unrestrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Shreveport police arrest suspect in $10,000 fiber optic cable damage case
Shreveport Police arrested Courtery Brunson following an investigation into the destruction of more than 400 feet of fiber optic cable on Buncombe Road. The damage was discovered Aug. 21 and caused an estimated $10,000 in losses.
Shreveport Police Department Property Crimes investigators reviewed photographs, license plate reader information and other evidence to identify a vehicle believed to have been involved. Just days later, investigators spotted the same vehicle in Shreveport and coordinated with patrol officers to conduct a traffic stop.

Rayville man arrested for arson in insurance fraud scheme
CALDWELL PARISH (August 28, 2026) – The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal (SFM) has arrested 47-year-old Bryant Nash of Rayville in connection with a residential fire this week that investigators determined was intentionally set as part of an insurance fraud scheme. SFM deputies arrested Nash on August 27, 2026, on one count of Arson with Intent to Defraud.
The investigation began after the Rayville Fire Department requested assistance from the SFM Fire Investigations Unit following a house fire in the 800 block of Perkins Drive in Rayville. At approximately 11:15 p.m. on August 26, 2026, the Rayville Fire Department responded to the house fire. Following an extensive investigation, SFM investigators determined the fire was intentionally set.
UPDATE – REOPENED: LA 501 over unnamed creek, Bienville Parish
DOTD advises motorists that the LA 501 bridge over an unnamed creek south of the Friendship community in Bienville Parish is back open to traffic following its replacement.
