Allegedly attempting to seize a young child and nearly hitting two individuals with her vehicle has put a Sibley woman behind bars.

Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker said Brittney Pearson, 34, has been charged with cruelty to juveniles and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the Wednesday evening incident.

Parker said deputies responding to a residence on Taylor Rd. just before 6:30 p.m were told Pearson had aggressively snatched a four-year-old and attempted to take him with her. A resident reportedly retrieved the juvenile and placed him inside a separate vehicle.

Witness statements claim Pearson then entered her vehicle and after nearly striking a parked car while backing up, proceeded to drive in the direction of the witness and the juvenile, nearly hitting them.

During interviews at the scene, the juvenile reportedly told deputies Pearson had aggressively picked him up  “and it hurt him.”

Pearson, a resident of the 200 block SE 2nd Ave., is being held in the parish jail. No bond reportedly has been set.

This information has been provided by a law enforcement agency as public information. Persons named as suspects in a criminal investigation, or arrested and charged with a crime, have not been convicted of any criminal offense and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
