Shreveport Police report that domestic violence calls have surpassed 2,124 in 2026 — the highest number the department has recorded in the past five years. About 40 percent of those calls have been linked to homicides in Shreveport this year, according to SPD spokesperson Cpl. Chris Bordelon. SPD officials said the April 19 Cedar Grove tragedy has raised public awareness and may be a factor in residents calling for help earlier. The department is partnering with local organizations including Project Celebration to connect victims with resources and to de-escalate situations before they turn deadly. Farmerville family burglarized while seeking medical treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
A Union Parish family returned home after two weeks at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis to discover their home had been burglarized. On Sunday, September 13, the family brought their child home and discovered the back door of the Academy Street residence had been forced open.The home had been ransacked. Jewelry, money, tools, electronics, and medication belonging to the child had been stolen. The person or persons responsible also opened cans of paint and poured it throughout the house, damaging countertops, children’s clothing, personal belongings, and items of sentimental value.
