SPRINGHILL, La. — Two people were found dead Friday morning inside a Springhill residence in what police are investigating as an apparent murder-suicide.
Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd said officers were notified about 6 a.m. after a relative entered the residence at 901 North Arkansas Street and found a man and woman dead.
Lynd said the woman had multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and the man had a single gunshot wound to the temple.
Based on the preliminary investigation and evidence at the scene, authorities believe the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide, Lynd said.
Lynd said there was no sign of forced entry. Police recovered one firearm at the residence, and the bodies were found in close proximity to each other.
A relative told police the couple had been arguing, Lynd said. The couple had recently moved to the Springhill area from Florida.
The man was originally from Cotton Valley and the woman was originally from Bastrop, according to Lynd.
Authorities said the man and woman were the only people who resided at the home.
Lynd said there is no indication of an active threat to the community and no suspect is being sought.
The bodies will be transported to Little Rock for autopsies. The identities of the deceased were not being released at this time.
