Fall gardens and fair shows

This summer has been a real hot one.  We are praying for rain this day and its looking pretty good.  It’s time to put in your fall garden.  Good vegetables to plant are broccoli, cabbage, onions, and collards.  Some are seeding turnips, kale and mustard.  The main thing that your garden needs now is water and lots of it.  The deer hunters are also getting food plots ready, that is if they can stand the hard ground and dust.

There is a new chemical out that takes the place of the Demon.  Cyper WSP has the same ingredient  that demon had and is still quite strong.  Cyper is labeled to spray inside and outside of the house.  I don’t understand chemical companies.  They have a great product and then just canceled it and changed the name.  I guess they don’t need my opinion or permission to do so.  If they did, there would be a lot of old products still around.  Dursban, diazinon, and chloridane would be available to buy and use.  That’s just my opinion.  Those chemicals really did a great job on insects, mostly fire ants and termites.

The Webster Parish Fair starts in just a few weeks.  Running a little later than usual but exciting just the same.  My grands are showing pigs for the first time.  They are excited and ready to get started.  The  Ag Class at Lakeside has quite a few entries for the fair.  Mr. Utley has worked all summer with his students.  They are feeding, clipping and training their projects.  Pigs, goats, and broilers are all on the schedule.  It takes a lot of your time to raise farm animals and these FFA’ers are all totally involved.  Did you know that you have to clip their hair just like you do for horses and cattle?  Show up at the fair and watch the hard work going on.  It’s entertaining and good for the soul.
