An expired registration tag caught the attention of Minden Police officers and a local man is now looking at drug and firearm charges as a result of the traffic stop.

Chief of Police Jared McIver said 27-year-old Jervae L. Winans was stopped by officers Cody James and Kendale Booker on Anderson St. shortly around 12:30 a.m. Thursday for the expired tag.

While performing a safety pat-down, Winans reportedly told the  officers he was carrying marijuana in his pants pocket. Officers reportedly retrieved a bag containing a green, leafy substance consistent with marijuana.

During the pat-down, officers also reportedly found a 9MM handgun inside a soft holster located in Winans’ waistband. When officers asked if he was a convicted felon, Winans reportedly said he was.

Winans, a resident of the 900 block of Carolina St., reportedly is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center and charged with possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana) and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bond is set at $25,001.
