There was a time when the drive-in movie theater was as common in America as apple pie and barbeque on the Fourth of July. Now, thanks to one local place of worship, a little bit of that old school Americana is returning to Minden.
Living Word Worship Center will hold the first of four free drive-in weekends this Sunday. Future dates include October 17, 24, and 31. The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. each Sunday.
The church will screen “The Chosen” on a 27-foot screen.
“This movie absolutely brought the Bible to life for many people,” Living Word pastor Trey Waller told The Journal. “Even being a pastor, this movie series intrigued me with the personalities behind each disciple. This is the real Jesus and not the religious Jesus.”
Waller says the event is for all of the community.
“We have done the drive-in in the past, but we haven’t done it in a while,” Waller told us. “It’s really neat with the big screen. If families would like, they can sit in their car and listen through the radio dial just like an old school drive-in.”
Waller said there will be concessions for sale, but the drive-in is free to everyone. Viewers are free to bring lawn chairs to sit under the stars if they want to get out of their cars.
