The Springhill-North Webster Chamber of Commerce hosted a luncheon on Wednesday, October 27 to honor the 5 Under 40 young professionals. Professional Home Health sponsored a delicious meal catered by Casseroles Etc. and dessert by Kristina Marshall. Chamber board members in attendance were Will Lynd, Jackie Johnson, Shelia Bankhead, Nikki Reeves, Brandy White, Kim Umphries, Jonathan Orr, and Will Whitehead.
The 5 Under 40 program recognizes five young professionals that are successful and active in their community. To be eligible for the award the individual must work in North Webster Parish. This year the Chamber received fifteen impressive nominees. Each nominee turned in a resume for the selection process. This year the Chamber awards went to Austin Lay, Sara Hall, Brianna Savoy, Logan Taylor, and Marguerite Slattery-Wade.
Austin Lay is a teacher at North Webster High School. Austin is the Head baseball and Assistant Football Coach. Austin is an excellent role model for the students that he interacts with at the high school. Austin also operates his own businesses -Lays Leap Land and Lays Flip and Rental Houses. He began his first business Lay’s Leap Land his first year of college. He has had opportunities to expand his businesses. Austin believes in the entrepreneurship ability of businesses to succeed in small towns. He teaches his students to believe and invest in where they live in addition to the global market.
Marguerite Slattery-Wade is a local attorney at McConnell and Slattery. Not only is Marguerite one of the attorneys, but she is also successful in managing the firm and its business activity. Marguerite is known for her willingness to help others. In her spare time, she is active in Women Helping Others.
Brianna Savoy is the owner and operator of Studio B Beauty Lounge located on Main Street. Brianna began her career as a licensed esthetician in 2018 in the back of a hair salon but quickly expanded and opened Studio B in 2019 on Church Street. In 2020, Brianna followed her dream and moved to a bigger building on Main Street to expand. Today Studio B has two licensed estheticians, two hairstylists, a massage therapist, and a nail technician. Brianna has accomplished establishing a successful business at the young age of twenty-three.
Logan Taylor has followed in his grandfather and father’s footsteps to become the third generation to manage Taylor’s Feed Store located on Percy Burns Road. Logan has taken the already successful business to a new level with technology. Logan has added a federal firearm license and a type three SOT that allows the business to buy, sell and transfer firearms. Logan is regularly active in the Springhill Masonic Lodge and Shongaloo Lodge.
Sara Hall is Vice President of Collections for Carter Federal Credit Union. She manages a department of five collectors. She is responsible for control loss of Credit Union accounts as well as develop department policies and procedures. Sara has been an employee for Carter for twenty years. She is active at First Baptist Church in Taylor and helps with the youth groups. She always eager to help assist the Credit Union with events such as training events, working booths at events and parades.
